UTV Canada began as nothing more than a dream and a seized opportunity by Reid Nehring in 2006. Over the years, our company has grown exponentially. We want to show you a behind-the-scenes look of the UTV Canada family, and we’re doing this with our new staff profiles feature!
Each quarter, we will feature one of our amazing team members!
For our first staff profile, we thought it would be easiest to pick on the new(ish) guy, Tim.
Q: Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed, Tim! We know you’re still technically the new guy to the UTV Canada Family, when exactly did you start?
A: I started with UTV Canada as their content writer in August—I am already over three months in and it’s gone very fast!
Q: Tell us more about you. How did you get into writing and communications?
A: I studied journalism at Humber College because writing has always been a passion of mine, ever since I was a little kid which made my path easy to follow. After graduation, I realized there weren’t a lot of career opportunities, so that’s how I discovered copywriting.
I started out with The Source in Ontario and absorbed everything I could and learned so much about marketing and communications, and how it ties into the writing world; it was a great experience.
Four years later, my wife and I moved to Alberta to be closer to family, and I started working with Liquor Stores, North America’s marketing team. This helped strengthen my writing skills and creative abilities even further.
I took a bit of a break and then started my next chapter with UTV Canada and haven’t looked back since!
Q: We know you’re new, but what do you think you can bring to the UTV Canada family?
A: This is a really fun company to work for. I can already tell I am a good fit for the job. I’m someone who can bring energy and the creative side, plus strong writing and editing, which will be helpful as we’ve recently launched our new website. UTV Canada is fun and down to earth, and I’m happy to be here.
Q: We heard you went on your very first UTV ride just before you started the job! How was it?
A: It was really fun! My wife and I both got to go for a ride with the UTV Canada team along with the crew from Paper Leaf Design. We headed to Tara’s place and geared up for the ride. It was awesome. The only way I can describe it is that it felt like I was on a 4D ride simulator in the theatres. It was bumpy, fast, and definitely muddy!
Q: Did you have a good driver for your first ride?
A: Yeah, definitely—Stacy drove. She’s an awesome driver and has a ton of experience. She knew exactly what route we should take based on the UTV model we were riding in.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most as a UTV Canada employee?
A: Definitely learning this new website; I can’t wait to see it evolve into something special. I am also really looking forward to absorbing myself further into the industry. I don’t have a UTV background so it’s definitely going to be many months filled with terminology and product knowledge.
Q: Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself Tim?
A: I really love the horror genre. Stephen King is by far my favourite author. I have been reading almost everything by him for at least 3 years. And I also really enjoy horror movies, too!
